Tutorial #1

Title of Tutorial Multiplying Fractions

Suitability for Diverse Learners This tutorial would meet the needs of the Tier 1 students in a classroom (~80%).  It has practice with real-time feedback and then provides support in the form of videos and “hints” (written explanation of the problem).
Overall Recommendation 6
Comments & Justification  This tutorial would meet the needs of many learners and is easy to use.  Students would intuitively know how to move through each activity.  In addition there are motivating badges to challenge students and reward them as they accomplish different tasks.  Students complete practice math problems that they are able to check for accuracy and get help if needed.  This tutorial is an engaging way to get students to practice with core math skills.

Overall Recommendation  6
Comments & Justification Students love the animated Brain Pop videos and like to complete the activities that go with them.  This tutorial is extremely easy to navigate and students will have no issues completing the tasks.  The video provides a good summary of the concept and the activities are an accurate reflection of what the video covers.  This tutorial provides a good jumping off point for applying the concept with a novel that students might be reading in class.

Comments & Justification  IXL is a clean, easy to use website.  This tutorial provides students support through answering questions and then giving explanations and things to remember if wrong answers are given.  Questions are broken up into challenge groups so students are motivated to complete each challenge.  There are also badges and challenges for students to try and earn.

Comments & Justification In this tutorial, students watch a video explaining the difference between parallel, intersecting, and perpendicular lines.  Throughout the video are questions that students can answer to check their understanding.   IT provides enough information to be used either before a lesson or as a review.  While it provides a thorough explanation of the topic it is brief enough to hold students attention and allow for further study and application of the topic.

Comments & Justification This video would be enjoyable to many kids.  It has built in questions that students need to answer (and cannot skip) to check their understanding.  It provides a concrete model that students can replicate when solving their own problems.  Students would definitely walk away from this tutorial with a solid strategy to use when solving similar problems.

Comments & Justification In this tutorial, students start by watching a video and then get a chance to read a text.  After reading they get to create a Flipgrid video explaining their understanding and finally they end with an activity tracking their own nutrition for a day.  The different activities provide numerous chances for students to engage with the topic and even get interested enough to seek out their own information. The final activity of tracking their nutrition for a day might intrigue them enough to continue the activity on their own.

Comments & Justification  This tutorial is a great example of how a variety of digital tools can be used to explore a topic.  Students are able to read an online story book abut the topic, watch a video, listen to a story, explore a website, and then they have a chance to apply their thinking.  It is easy to use and navigate with clear links and instructions.  This would be a great tutorial to during a unit on weather to help students learn about the topic.

Comments & Justification  In this tutorial students interact with a variety of media sources related to Digital Citizenship.  They read a text, watch videos, take a quiz, and explore some interactive websites.  It is easy to navigate and students are able to record their understanding in the document.  Because of the plethora of websites to explore, students will likely be able to continue exploring them outside of the lesson.  The material is engaging enough that they will want to learn more.

Comments & Justification  This tutorial is rich in resources and provides numerous opportunities to understand the material.  It is easy to navigate and each step is clearly explained.  Students are able to watch videos, read articles, and explore slide decks and websites.  They have numerous opportunities to record and report their understandings.  This tutorial also provides the opportunity to summarize their understanding through a created presentation.
